With ears that size, it is no wonder that this young deer heard me coming long before I saw it. He (?) was stuck between a river and the trail where I was standing, and seemed to feel that standing perfectly still was the best way to handle the situation. Hopefully he's able to find a good meal or two to put some meat on his bones.
