DennisFlood.com Photos of the Week - June 2006

What starts in Madison and ends up many, many miles away? My June 2006, that's what. Food, friends, sunsets, nature, signs and famous landmarks still catch my eye no matter where I am.

Mixed Heritage

Bangers and Mash with Carlsberg, and Haggis with Guinness ... not exactly how my ancestors probably did things, but, we live in challenging times these days.

St. Andrew

Though I didn't have a chance to play a full 18 holes on the famous St. Andrew's golf course, I did at least have a chance to look at the 18th hole. Counts for something, I think.

Lounging in the Scottish Sun

Hundreds of Scots and tourists alike flocked to the park to take in a sunny afternoon at the foot of the Edinburgh Castle. And to think that not too long ago, historically speaking, this same park was a cesspool.

Watch Your Step

No need to add words to this sign ... you're obviously not supposed to be goofy-dancing near the edge of the crumbling Cliffs of Mohr.

Guinness is Good For You

Guinness is Good For You
June 23, 2006
Everywhere I go, I see more and more beer. I'm not if this proclamation is backed by any nutritional or medical research or not, but, the sign on the pub does clearly say that "Guinness is good for you". The power of suggestion ...

Kegs and Kegs of Beer

It's no secret that you can find beer in Ireland. I was a little surprised to find just this much beer sitting unguarded in the streets of Cork.

Look Left - Good Advice

Look Left - Good Advice
June 18, 2006
Some of the best advice I received in Ireland came in the form of the frequent "Look Left" and "Look Right" directions painted on the streets. Obviously I wasn't the first disoriented tourist to walk Dublin's busy streets.

Christ Church Cathedral

Perhaps the name isn't as famous as St. Patrick's Cathedral, but the Christ Church Cathedral as at least as impressive from the outside. A large bouquet of late spring flowers don't hurt either.

Beer Belly Blues

I'm not sure if beer is the culprit or not, but, this guy has definitely been putting a lot of something in his belly.

Web

I'm not sure what kind of a web it is, but, it's a web. Lake Mendota and the Capitol in the background.

Sunset at the Terrace

A group of friends gathered at the terrace to celebrate summer, life in Madison, sunset, free music and a bit of cheap beer. That's me in the bottom left.

Health Burger Deluxe

Don't ask me where the inspiration came from, but, this 'health burger' ... a brat wrapped in two cheeseburger patties ... was actually eaten. If Bratfest gets ahold of this idea, things are bound to get REALLY crazy next year.
